A walk in San Diego’s Balboa Park

The last day of our Californian road trip, we were given a tour of San Diego’s epic Balboa Park.

The architecture in this park is absolutely beautiful – it’s far more than a stretch of green lawn and is one of those must see attractions. Past museums, arched walkways, fountains, beautiful buildings and gardens we walked, before a lovely lunch at the popular Prado Restaurant.

Within the park, I really loved the cute Spanish Village Art Studios, set around a pretty multi colour slab paving courtyard, complete with purple flowering trees and a small white bandstand in the centre.

We travelled to San Diego airport via the open air stadium, impressive Naval Museum on a massive ship and Seaport Village.

Yes, we could have gone to famous San Diego Zoo or Sea World, but I’ll be on safari next month and after hearing about the animals lives at Sea World we chose not to go.

I’m glad San Diego was our last stop, the warm, sunny weather was a lovely end to our trip (apparently it is sunny most of the year – I’m very envious). It was all the better for our fabulous friends showing us around – local knowledge makes the world of difference!

Arriving at Denver International Airport close to midnight, it’s been an amazing whirlwind of a road trip – and I hope I get the chance to do another one day.
